The Beginning

It’s been said that the longest journey begins with single step. In our case, it began with a 6:45 a.m. bus ride from the CHHS parking lot to the Downtown Pomona train station; a long wait in front of the police station, where officers kept asking our chaperone why almost 100 high school students were loitering followed by a quick trek up several flights of stairs, across some railroad tracks, down more stairs on the opposite side; and rides on two trains. After about an hour on the upper level of a Metrolink Train, a quick run through Union Station and a very short ride on a Gold Line train, we emerged at our destination: the Little Tokyo area of Los Angeles!

Other than the commuters who didn’t want to move their bags to let us sit, the train ride was a lot of fun. I thought it would be noisy, but it was very quiet and smooth!

We gathered as a very large group in front of the Japanese American National Museum, which unfortunately, we didn’t get to visit. But we did get to take a picture of all of us together before we headed off in all different directions.
